The Giving Tree Band

Using songwriting and performing as a vehicle for The Giving Tree Bandcommunity service, the band’s mission is to spread education on natural, healthy, and simple living and inspire a culture of sustainability and peace through music. The economically and ecologically sound decisions of the band include playing instruments built from naturally fallen trees and recycled woods, connecting local organic farmers with consumers at shows, and selling T-shirts made only from organic cotton.

Proceeds from their concerts have supported a variety of non-profit charities and organizations including Literacy Works of Chicago, Illinois Renewable Energy Association, Illinois Environmental Council, Illinois Stewardship Alliance, and Growing Home Farm, which provides training and employment opportunities in organic agriculture for homeless and low-income people in Chicago.

The Sinful Saints

The Sinful Saints Dixieland Jazz Band, founded in 1994 by Tom McDermott, started as a brass quartet at his Crystal Lake church in 1972. Because of these solemn beginnings, combined with the love of Dixieland and to add a little levity to their group, the name "Sinful Saints" emerged.

The Sinful Saints perform in concert style for many gatherings and as their card says, “Dixieland Jazz for all occasions including weddings, wakes and funerals”. In community parades the Sinful SaintsSinful Saints Dixieland Jazz Band ride on a trailer or a fire truck. On occasion they've emulated a Dixieland Jazz Funeral. This started in New Orleans with the band in the procession playing songs:
Down by the Riverside, Over In The Glory Land and Just a Closer Walk With Thee. The very popular When the Saints Go Marching In, our theme song, is played for the processional and recessional music for the funerals. These tunes plus other hymns are performed by the Sinful Saints in Dixieland Church Services.
