Over 330 participants registered for the 2007 race, a significant increase from the previous year with under 200 finishers. This growth is the primary reason for the addition of a new component to the 2008 race schedule. A 1 Mile Fun Run has been added to the line up with a start time of 8:00am on Sunday, October 5, 2008.
The first 100 participants will receive a t-shirt and will run the perimeter of the high school property starting at Jefferson and Hawk Drive to 10th Street to Adams and back to Hawk Drive to finish. Every finisher in the 1 mile race will receive a participant ribbon with finishing times and places to be posted on the internet after the race.
“We had a large increase in the participants under the age of 18 last year and wanted to add a fun event that would compliment the 5K. The 1 mile is something that everyone can compete in regardless of age or running ability”, commented Sarah Earl, Race Director.
As for the 5K all of the usual suspects will appear for the 3rd annual Autumn on Parade 5k – music, premium t-shirts, professional timing, good food, sports drinks, great raffle prizes, awards to overall male/female finisher and top three male/female finishers in each age bracket.
An official IHSA/IESA starter will again get the 5K runners off to a fast start at 8:30am. Participants will navigate a new course this year running towards the downtown festival to start with the middle section through the park and a finish on the Oregon high school track.
We are proud to announce that this year’s race will be run in honor of Malorie Ziegler. Malorie was a junior high student and athlete at David L. Rahn junior high in Mt. Morris and was an advocate for youth. In an effort to continue Malorie’s passion we are partnering with the 15th Judicial Circuit CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Program serving Lee, Carroll and Ogle counties.
CASA’s mission is to be a powerful voice for the health, safety and best interests of abused or neglected children. CASA benefits these children by providing them with a thoroughly trained, caring advocate who makes recommendations to the court following intensive investigation of the child’s situation. For more information on the 15th Judicial Circuit CASA program and how you can help visit CASALeeCarroll.com.
